This is the latest incarnation of the HDF video. The narration has been edited to include research from a paper in Physical Review Letters (2004) which puts the size of the universe at 46.5 billion light years, not 78 billion as I originally stated.
In the video narration, I round that value up to 47 billion light years.
I also took out Numa Numa guy.

it's logical that a galaxy would orbit other galaxies. but each time you orbit the time increases (moon orbits in weeks while earth orbits in years while stars orbit most of their lives and barely move) it's most likely that if the galaxy does rotate, it dies out before even making a fraction of the journey : /

scientists argue over the continuation and future of the universe so don't pretend you KNOW the answer. there are three possibilities. 1) if the mass of the universe does not reach a "critical mass" tehn the universe will continue to expand forever. 2) if the mass of the universe is = to critical mass, then the universe will continue to expand, but slower and slower until it stops and pulls itself back in. 3) if the mass is less, then the universe will (ofcourse) collapse or implode.

Our universe is not as big as we think and it is non-homogenous (there is just one gravity centre). The seemingly very distant objects can actually be images of close objects because the light can orbit around the gravity centre. Our universe is also collapsing, not expanding. "whats beyond that 47 billion radius?" more space. The most common misconception on this thread is that tdarnell talks about the total universe. He doesn't, he talks about the OBSERVABLE universe. This is the part of the universe that we on earth are able to see. The light of galaxies furhter than 47 billion ly simply hasn't reached us yet, even after 13.7 billion years (the age of the universe). The total universe is far bigger (possibly infinite), but sadly beyond our view.

roycesboy, I must admit that the first question that crossed my own mind when I say this clip was, whats beyond that 47 billion radius? Maybe one day Mankind may find out. The last Space Shuttle mission before their retirement is to do one more major service on The Hubble with new High Definition cameras, and vastly improved filters,new battery packs and improved Gyros. It seems there are no absolutes when dealing with the universe. Still,this is a fantastic clip and thank you to all involved.

If science is right we can't look 47 billion light years in space. The reason why is because the universe is only 13 billion years old so light traps us! We can only look 13 billion light years in space. Light only travels 180,000 MPS! So stars you see now in space might not be there no more! If the sun would to just turn off it will take 8 mins for us to notice, because light is not as fast as it seems!

well, technically the universe, to us, is only as large as light can travel during the age of the universe. it has a border but the universe itself could be larger due to spacetime expansion rates, but unless we break the light barrier, the universe will always appear to end at some point :) whether it actually ends, or not.

Most digital SLR kit lenses have a maximum aperture in the f3.5 to f5.6 range depending on which end of the zoom range you are using. A 55mm lens at f5.6 will not give you a particularly shallow depth of field. To achieve this, you need either a longer lens such as 200mm or longer, or a wider aperture. raver4 is kind of right,i do fullbore rifle shooting;i.e i can shoot a 5"(13c.m.) group at 1000 mts. with a remington 300mag rifle, it's a sniper rifle realy used for competition. I wouldn't use it in fields to shoot rabbits, thats a job for a shotgun or small bore rifle, light, easy to aim, fast to point without thinking about it. so a bow with weights and stuff aint practical when you go climbing over fences and pushing through hedges, understand,?

thanks for replying . . . as far as the Idols go, that may go for some but trust me, you will be seeing some of those Idols for a long ass time. David Cook blows me away. David Archuletta just needs to mature and then he will be blowing everyone away. Tori Amos is my absolute favorite. She can kick ass in her concerts too. I saw her without her band Check out Welcome to Sunny Fla - Precious Things. I have never seen a jam band and I am sure that I wld absolutely be in Heaven seeing DMB!

It's obviously a loose connection, caused by moving your magnets around. Probably they are oily, or have some residue, or oxidation that is causing this. The spark is jumping out at the horizontal angle because of the powerful magnetic field of those magnets. Furthermore, voltage doesn't 'stop', it's the current flow that has stopped, because of the incomplete circuit. I'm not sure about any rectifying effect of the magnet material and the nickel coating ( if so, but it could happen, I suppose.

Try a continuity tester or ohm meter at each end of the magnets. I suspect the spark is coming from the surface between the magnets where enough arcing has occurred to limit the flow of current. Remember objects fall back to earth because they long to be with the earth not because of gravity.

The center magnet has the nickel removed, the current must pass thru the inner metal, which is the strong magnet. I did this with clean new nickel-neo magnets and the juice flowed over the nickel both ways. I scraped the nickel off one in the center, and the thing acted like a diode. This fits nicely with the theory that magnetism is a spiral shape, rather than a line. What you saw happen with the spark, can be explained by reading about how a mass spectrometer works.

those magnets have a nickel coating which is where the eletrons will flow notice the spark comes out from the same gap each time right next to that middle magnet that is rough-looking so it could be bad connectiom with tons of amps so maybe clean the contact area again, shufflw magets around and also see if you can get the spard to jump to right instead of left too Make sure also it is not the "switch spike" happening - maybe some caps and diodes over your switch to isolate that

This current is very great. What I think is happening is the surge current is strong enough to let just a few electrons ride directly over the (apposing) magnet's field just before the magnet's field has time to overcome this (load) current to become an open circuit. Now, you can test this by measuring the voltage directly across the magnets one polarity and you will see no voltage and the other will measure the source!

What is happening here is a transient! With the magnet's poles in-line with the polarity of the batteries the magnets act like a short! Now, with the magnets reversed they're now acting like a open, but We have to remember whenever there is a switch present we will have SURGE CURRENTS (if the resistive load is after the transient component.

i would think there's a difference when you cross wires that have no shielding, or place an unshielded wire so close to magnets like that. Try and keep the wires separated and away from the magnets other than where the contacts are made (clips). And yeah, it does look like the magnets are charged then discharge. I would try and alternate the number of magnets attached, and see if theres a relative time-frame of charge.
