sorry but i dont agree. i agree with you that hendry and davis were different class but i dont agree that white was cocky or a waster. as steve davis said about jimmy, he never boasted when he won or never moaned when he lost, and he was just at the right place at the wrong time when it comes to the world title.

Tommy White, his proud father used to travel regularly to the tournaments with Jimmy for support and they really wanted him to become world champion. Tommy died a couple of months ago.

He did of course come up against Hendry 4 times in the world final and was drubbed 18 5 in one of the finals in 1993. Had it not been for Hendry or the odd lapse in concentration at a crucial point in a match, he could have certainly won the title atleast 3 times I think and the record books could have been different.

I believe the two greatest chances Jimmy had of winning the world title were when he was 14 8 up against Stephen in the final of this world championship in 1992, and not least of course in that epic final of the 1994 world final in the 35th frame when he was at the table on the black. This was regarded by many as his best ever chance of winning the title. Statisticly However there are several debates by many that his best chance was in 1992 when he had the 6 frame lead. During the last 2 years I have seen both Jimmy and Tony Drago in exhibitions. Jimmy was ignorant, aloof and chose not to engage with the fans. His snooker was poor too, seemed more interested in pints than points. Drago was brilliant, chatted, laughed, had the crack with the lads. Jim, you're too big for your boots.

I also met ray at pontins holiday camp 1980 at xmas time.He was doing an exhibtion and i had my photo taken with him and his car with the number plate " 1 pro". I wonder if he still has it! Great bloke and for me the model sportsmen=Compete hard but always had a smile and a well done for his opponent.A winner but a very graceful loser too.I was born in wales too,so i was inspired by him.Been playing since i was 12 and i 44 now.Good on you ray.

I agree that Ebdon is a bit sketchy at times but you just can't have players that get a maximum in less than 10 minutes every time. It's the same in pool, you've got the fiery players like Strickland and the more reflexed one like Ralf Souquet. It's just the way it is

Alex is from a different planet. His technique defies all the textbooks but yet the cueing is straight and true. Not the best of positional players around but his brilliant potting ability saves him time and time again. His drunkardness & all his tempestousness ultimately caused his demise in snooker. I should know. A buddy of mine is a drunkard. I see a lot in common betn them. Only the bottle will keep them 'sane'.

how good was the middle pocket play? awesome stuff, but the free flowing style cost him position so many times, and the genius ran out in the end. Pity, he would have spent the 10 grand on Guinness and women (in that order) before coming out for the evening session! The ref's yellow jacket deserves a special mention too...

Back in 1992 during Ronnie's amazing 38 game unbeaten qualifying run. He got to meet the legendary Fred Davis in a qualifying match. The result was 5 v 1 to Ronnie, but bare in mind Mr Davis was 79 and was finally on the verge of retiring due to severe athiritus, yet Fred still managed to some how nick a frame of him. I'm sure there was some sentimentality from Ronnie, but even so.

snooker probably wont still be around in 30 years, but if it is, we wont see that. snooker has got to improve the show. no-one wants to see 100 breaks being knocked in in every frame, because once you know the frame is over after about 70, it gets old. you want the next frame to start. in other words, they have to make the tables more difficult to keep the players challenged.
