I highly doubt that the information actually is transmitted through the larynx. You can hear many voices at once, even music. Photoreading is not about memorizing a page. It's about subconscious processing of a page. It's not about photographic memory.

This guy is being interviewed by his room mate. This reminds me of something Kramer would do. Remember when he had a talk show in his apartment?-The larynx does not tell the brain what is was going to say. The brain tells the larynx what to say. How does the eyes or larynx know that the image is even a word before the brain remembers that these black marks are letters making up words. You decide with your brain if the word will be said, not your larynx. They speed read, TV, and interview books.

I have always been able to speed read but only use it very few times. I find most books can never hold my interest long enough for me to finish them but i will now speed read them instead. Try it its easy. Your eyes just glide across the lines of word its like the guy says you scan the page.

So the eyes send a signal to the larynx? And Then the larynx tells the brain what it was going to say? I thought that the eyes sends the signal to the brain first and then the brain interpets the image for a particular word and we think the word. If we don't want to say it, the brain nevers sends the signal to the speech center of the brain and thus never makes it to the larynx.

PART V NOW, as to the subvocalization that MCT wants you do to it's basically a way to train you to do exactly that, READING WITHOUT JUMPING BACK. it's a clever attempt to break an old habit. IT achieves the same goal as if you purposely try not to read stop-and-go style. a bit like dating Mary to get to Jane. so while MCT method is fine, you can achieve the same goal by simply keep reading without looking back, like a car driving on the highway on cruise-control.

PART III this is usually the result of a lazy mind, which often becomes a bad habit for the rest of our lives, and habits are hard to break. if you do that, test yourself by doing this: when you're tempted to reread a passage, ask yourself what the content of that passage was. after you answer, then go back and reread that passage. the odds are you answered yourself correctly in other words, you knew what that passage was all about, and there was NO NEED for you to re-read the it.

PART II MCT approach to have you repeat a list of numbers of letters while reading is basically a way to train you to read without jumping back and reading the same passage again. in other words many if not most of us have the tendency to read and re-read a word or entire sentence after just finishing reading it: that's the main reason why we are slow readers.

PART I: this is a very interesting way to learn how to read fast, but it's probably the long way to achieve it...MathCrazyTutoring's heart is obviously in the right place but what he is doing is getting you to achieve a goal that can be reached in a different way, probably easier way...the reading, larynx, brain connection is a bit tenuous, and unless you read aloud then I don't see the scientific connection.

He manages to take such complicated manners that we encounter everyday in school, work, etc. And breaks it down to make it feel a simple task. i hate how teachers misrepresent topics or tasks as easy to do when it's not developing a good thesis is a pain in the ass but it's like 80% of writing a good paper - u make it seem like it's automatic and can be done w/ little thinking (well, with your so-called thesis, it may be true) i am horrified by bu3antar's comment... if this piece of garbage actually helped him be a better teacher, i sure feel sorry for his students

ur thesis sucks - if there is no controversy at all to ur argument: "PE is a positive thing in any community," then it's way too obvious and doesn't need to be argued in other words, YOUR THESIS HAS TO SAY SOMETHING -- u can't say something like, "Babies are cute" or "Michael Jordan is a great basketball player" and none of ur "assertions" contrast public ed with other alternative, if not inferior, modes of education (which is where I thought u were going, except MAYBE the first one)

Misleading.... The truth is we cannot detect lies any better than chance. Look up work by DePaulo and Eckman and you will find stuff like this to be pretty unreliable. Secret Service agents are the only group in the in world... well, atleast in America... that perform better than chance when attempting to detect lies. Additionally, it is not all in the eyes... especially if the liar is aware that most people look to the eyes when trying to discover truth. A paralinguistic approach is key.

Yup--approximately 80% of the population looks left for memory recall, but the other 20% are reversed in eye direction or have some sort of neurological or other dysfunction. But, being shy has nothing to do with memory recall or creativity. The eyes will look in whatever respective direction they normally would, even if the person starts out looking down.

It also depends on if they're a righty or a lfety. If a person is a lefty, they tend to do things to the left of them, so they'll look left - doesn't mean they're telling the truth. Also, take into account if the person is shy. Shy people tend to not look into other people's eyes, and tend to look down while talking. These poor people are going to be labled liars.

I've began to take an interest in this subject quite recently and would just like to comment on your losing breath by adding that I too experience the same thing. Perhaps that is the result of trying to oppress your pharynx? I've no idea, but I read at somewhere around 350 words per minute if I say the words in my head, and much faster with less comprehension when I try to do so without saying anything or making some kind of null for me to use to not say the words (lack of breath, etc).

That's a great question. Honestly, I've only studied my methods with the English language. With a different language, I would think that the same rules would apply. The goal of my speed reading exercises is for reading to become visual rather than auditory, so for a language that is based on visual pictures I would think speed reading would apply that much more, but I don't know for sure, you'll have to let me know how it goes.

I'm a pretty fast reader when it comes to our normal alphabet, but I've been studying Japanese for 6 months now and I finally know the first 2 alphabets. How about recommending EyeQ? I use it every day and it is a really good way of learning speed reading. I personally have improved from 236 words pr minute to around 450 words per minute. And the comprehension is starting to come to :) Great videos though, it is because of you i started speed reading :D

In the beginning you will have little comprehension, but over time you will see that you will be able to read faster and retain more information. When you first start I don't recommend practicing on material you need to know. It's like practicing batting when your up at the plate during the world series; you have to practice and warm up so that when the pitcher throws the ball your ready.

400-600 wpm is the breaking point in which the majority of the reading is turned over to eyes. Once you exceed pass these speeds then you are reading almost entirely with your eyes and not with your larynx. I would suggest reciting your alphabet while reading, this takes the larynx out of the equation and should help you to break through into the higher reading speeds. I don't like this method. Better to think of it as sqrt72 = sqrt9 x sqrt8 sqrt9 = 3, so we're left with 3 x sqrt8. sqrt8 can be broken down into sqrt2 x sqrt 4, and sqrt4 = 2 so we're left with 2 x 3 x sqrt2, or 6sqrt2.

I already knew functions before going into Calculus from programming. int pie(int y) { int result = 4 * pow(y,2) + 2 * y; return result; } int main( int argc, char *argv[]) { int y = 5; printf(pie(y)); } If I include the "cmath" library in C++, that program would work just like: pie(y) = 4y^2 + 2y (in this case, pie(5) = 110) It's funny how I learn a lot of "advanced" math (Calculus, etc.) while programming as a 12 year old.

Wouldn't it help tremendously to explain the *role* of variables? And also to give some examples of common functions such as addition, constant functions, etc.? It might be helpful to draw out in more detail the distinction between a function expression (of some language) and the function which it denotes (if it denotes any).

u contradict yourself in part 2: here u say u can put whatever for f, (like "banana" or "pie") but u also say that "pie" must specify exactly the variables in the function, i.e. it should say, pie (y, z) in other words, u can't say pie (w, i) or pie (moon, earth), b/c the variables are y and z but then in Part 2, u substitute the variable p for x what gives? (doubt u will respond, but then again, all u can say is, "i screwed up")

Decent math lesson; however, you'll confuse the foreign language learners with "Pe." They're likely to assume it's a special math symbol. It should be "pie."
