got to admit people this really did work lol, straight away i read a whole page of text going just "1,2,3" and remembered almost all of it, skips out too much detail if you try read to quickly though, so take it easy. nd thanks for the tip this better work for my exams.

So the eyes send a signal to the larynx? And Then the larynx tells the brain what it was going to say? I thought that the eyes sends the signal to the brain first and then the brain interpets the image for a particular word and we think the word. If we don't want to say it, the brain nevers sends the signal to the speech center of the brain and thus never makes it to the larynx.

PART V NOW, as to the subvocalization that MCT wants you do to it's basically a way to train you to do exactly that, READING WITHOUT JUMPING BACK. it's a clever attempt to break an old habit. IT achieves the same goal as if you purposely try not to read stop-and-go style. a bit like dating Mary to get to Jane. so while MCT method is fine, you can achieve the same goal by simply keep reading without looking back, like a car driving on the highway on cruise-control.

PART III this is usually the result of a lazy mind, which often becomes a bad habit for the rest of our lives, and habits are hard to break. if you do that, test yourself by doing this: when you're tempted to reread a passage, ask yourself what the content of that passage was. after you answer, then go back and reread that passage. the odds are you answered yourself correctly in other words, you knew what that passage was all about, and there was NO NEED for you to re-read the it.

PART II MCT approach to have you repeat a list of numbers of letters while reading is basically a way to train you to read without jumping back and reading the same passage again. in other words many if not most of us have the tendency to read and re-read a word or entire sentence after just finishing reading it: that's the main reason why we are slow readers.

PART I: this is a very interesting way to learn how to read fast, but it's probably the long way to achieve it...MathCrazyTutoring's heart is obviously in the right place but what he is doing is getting you to achieve a goal that can be reached in a different way, probably easier way...the reading, larynx, brain connection is a bit tenuous, and unless you read aloud then I don't see the scientific connection.

I highly doubt that the information actually is transmitted through the larynx. You can hear many voices at once, even music. Photoreading is not about memorizing a page. It's about subconscious processing of a page. It's not about photographic memory.

This guy is being interviewed by his room mate. This reminds me of something Kramer would do. Remember when he had a talk show in his apartment?-The larynx does not tell the brain what is was going to say. The brain tells the larynx what to say. How does the eyes or larynx know that the image is even a word before the brain remembers that these black marks are letters making up words. You decide with your brain if the word will be said, not your larynx. They speed read, TV, and interview books.

I have always been able to speed read but only use it very few times. I find most books can never hold my interest long enough for me to finish them but i will now speed read them instead. Try it its easy. Your eyes just glide across the lines of word its like the guy says you scan the page.

I think the main key to comprehending your reading quickly is to never and I mean never go back to reading sentences over and over. You'll never get anywhere and you're making reading complicated to do. From what I've learned, as you read, think of it as connecting dots. Keep connecting the word you read at a steady pace, even if there are big word you don't understand. Because the words surrounding that 'big word' is going to help you visualize what it means. In his book: speed (and range) reading, Buzan puts forward methods for studying using speed reading (and other reading techniques) along with mind mapping. His other book 'Use your head' he covers a complete mentally literate approach to studying at any level. It takes time and effort to effectively use these techniques but is worthwhile and will save so much time ultimately. They are also interesting reads in themselves, highly recommended.

ah ok: slow, careful readers dont take anything in. However, if your studying for a midterm exam wouldn't it be better to speed and read and make notes at the same time? isn't pen and paper an effective way of studying? or maybe this method only applies to you and certain people. But i agree speed reading is essential if you want to have a more enjoyable read.

I've began to take an interest in this subject quite recently and would just like to comment on your losing breath by adding that I too experience the same thing. Perhaps that is the result of trying to oppress your pharynx? I've no idea, but I read at somewhere around 350 words per minute if I say the words in my head, and much faster with less comprehension when I try to do so without saying anything or making some kind of null for me to use to not say the words (lack of breath, etc).

Well people, i think i can do some speedreading, but there's a problem with it: namely i feel that it is somehow connected with the way i breathe, i.e. when i start scanning or speedreading i always reach to a point when i stop breathing and certainly there comes a signal to my brain and after that i loose my concentration and focus and retun to my normal speed of reading...i donnow whether i could explain...and another thing is blinking...this thing also somehow slows my speed...

That's a great question. Honestly, I've only studied my methods with the English language. With a different language, I would think that the same rules would apply. The goal of my speed reading exercises is for reading to become visual rather than auditory, so for a language that is based on visual pictures I would think speed reading would apply that much more, but I don't know for sure, you'll have to let me know how it goes.

Hey there, and thanks for this vid. I have a quick question: Will this work with any language? I'm a pretty fast reader when it comes to our normal alphabet, but I've been studying Japanese for 6 months now and I finally know the first 2 alphabets. We're looking at *about* 204 signs, depending on the combinations. Do you think something can be done to increase my speed in japanese? Maybe not for this technique, but your other videos. Also, maybe I just need more time with Japanese.

Hi! I wrote you y message. Please, answer me. Or should I post it here? My main question is (but please, read my message anyway): while learning speed reading, can we keep on reading the "old" way, or it is then a habit that we want to put aside? Because I feel I loose all I've parcticed after reading one hour or two in the "normal"way. I would say the best method in question is to visualize large chunks of words. This will help rid yourself of subvocalization and/or hearing the words in your head. I find that if you just understand and visualize everything you read, you'll automatically go faster and understand more, just as Mr. Buzan says.

By the way, the website which suggests that hand pacing may be appropriate is readingsoft dot com. Additionally, they also say in their FAQs that only 20 percent of speed reading aficionados will ever be able to break the 400wpm mark because they need to hear each word pronounced in their head to comprehend. thanks. I really like to hear about the results of speed reading effort. I am currently at ~210 wpm up from 100wpm using hand pacing. But I came across a website which says finger pacing is inappropriate for reaching 800wpm. Any thoughts on that ? how fast can you read?

If by 'read' you mean conscious appreciation of the text. It depends on many factors: your understanding of the subject, your purpose for reading, difficulty of the text, etc. Every text and every reader is different. On average between 250 to 1500 / minute. If by 'read' you mean the photoreading step (where you don't consciously see the text - you flip through the book at a page/second) then about 20.000/words/minute. With this technique most people are unaware of what they're processing.

Yes it's normal, they tell you you're not supposed to. When you're in primary focus, you're consciously processing the information on the page and they are trying to get you to UNconsciously process it. It's very normal.
