I watched the Derby on TV at a party with 2 of my friends for my friend's bday. We couldn't hear anything over everyone's voices but when the camera showed Eight Belles down we're like, "That looks like Eight Belles. I hope she'll be okay." I was praying that she would get back up and be okay. And then when the guy (i think it was the vet) said she had been put down, we just heard "she was immediately euthanized" and we just started sobbing. It still makes me sad to remember that day. RIP.

i like pavement and malkmus a lot, though on a personal level i'd agree with what you wrote. maybe for "hipsters" irony and detachment are just easier to relate to. barlow's heart-on-his-sleeve style of writing definitely irks some people. but his work holds up and i think in the future he'll get his due as an influence.

That's why this video is awesome. The fact that anyone even discusses this clip for any reason whatsoever completely legitimizes it as art. You're right, it IS just some guy eating a hamburger, but you, along with everyone else who watched, paid attention to just some guy munching on a burger. He successfully exerted an influence on you and inspired a reaction with something as mundane as a hamburger patty. That's why he's famous, that's why people call him a genius.
