The main thing that makes this work is that when he goes to give him a handshake, Derren interrupts it, a handshake is done automatically..so it is unconsciously done, if u interrupt it u go into their unconsciousness. Therefore you can alter their mind a bit.

For those who don't believe this - this is totally true. I'v get known with the principles of NLP from a DIFFERENT man. Actually - from a lot sources of information. Each time - the same information. All the videos about NLP, books, everything. And know, when i know this stuff - it actually seems clear what he is doing. What he does to get the results are amazing, but they are not difficult to understand and to learn how to do. It is a lot of NLP and hypnotic language but it is possible and it does work. He uses it as entertainment, but there are a lot of people using these techniques for therapy and it works so much better then traditional psychology.

In the start he was talking about somethiing she felt unsure with and he touched her left shoulders every time he mentioned what was unsure, and then he talked about her home that was defenitely Vegas and touched her right shoulder every time he mentioned something that was absolutely true. Later when he talked about the colours he asked stuff like "but this doesn't have to be yellow, does it?" and touched her "uncertain" left shoulder qhile doing so, making her uncertain. Amazing! =)

you see red because only red is reflected to your eyes, all but red is absorbed (like Derren said). When you are implying yellow is red, the "real red" that you actually see gets ignored, hence, "no light" is reflected to you eyes. To her, chances are red is black whilst black is also black.

Suggestion means "subtle command".... Since this people are infront of camera, they tend to follow what derren tells them instead of going against it.... Moreover things like nodding the head tells them subtly to follow his instructions..... Nowadays eveyone wants to be on tv... This goes with stage hypnosis as people follow due to pressure from the crowd (they don't want to look stupid infront of them).

Usually when you ask someone to think of something they automatically move their eyes in some direction but if you're going for a lie that unconcious movement of the eyes won't happen since there's nothing for you to remember and the eyes will stay focused on the person you're lying to which will, in some cases, give away the lie.

Nah what you're talking about is Nuero Hypnotic Repatterning. NLP is different for people you ask. Bandler says NLP is the structure of subjective experience. Grinder says its about modeling and everything you need to master "know nothing" states. A good question to ask is, "How would you know you mastered nlp anyway?" After that, start with the Milton model I suggest because its the most fun lol. But i urge you to take an objective standpoint for both co-founders.

One distinction is to continue to model in a "know-nothing state" until you reach criteria. For the target skill keep modelling until you can achieve a similar outcome in a similar time frame for that skill. There are multiple skills made up of multiple patterns carried by Geniuses. A skilled modeller may become more skilled than the Genius modeled. Part of the modelling process is dropping out non-essential patterns. One can generalise the patterns modelled from an expert to other contexts.

I'm impressed by Tony Robbins, and Grinder, and think modelling is powerful, but a question comes to mind. Aren't they overselling it by claiming you can produce the same results as a genius by modelling them? "Success leaves clues" Robbins says, but what about differences in natural abilities? Surely we can't all be as funny as Robin Williams or Jim Carey simply by modelling them, though I'm sure we could become a whole lot funnier than we were before.

Many people are frightened by the concept of the human energy system. Like it or not, the scientific evidence demonstrates that it is real. There is a great deal of scientific research now (much of it done at prestigious universities) that demonstrate that it is real. Nice Video. I'm a 14 year old kid with major procrastination problems, and I'm nearly failing one of my classes because of it. We don't even have a clear idea of why still fall to the ground we're still in theory, but we don't doubt it do we. It's simply that we haven't found scientific reasoning for it. I have approached several university faculties to set up a test to demonstrate the effectiveness of NLP for phobic response. I use NLP regularly on clients and have dealt with phobias often. The fastest cure was 4 minutes. The longest took 8 hours. Every faculty I approach dismisses this out of hand. I've come to the conclusion that the funding structure actually works against proving it. Can it really be that they prefer to get funding to study phobics, rather than see them "cured" quickly?

No...This is not scientology...This is all about modelling excellence...For example, if a person gets up early in the morning by 5 am daily on a consistent basis, using NLP you can find out how that person did that on a consistent basis...That is, what are his thought processes, how did he use his physiology, what are his beliefs etc...Once you find that you can take that and do it for yourself.. You will also produce the same kind of result similar to the person who did that earlier..

The point is, nothing makes empiricism special, but the challenge to you is...what is the preferred alternative? Empiricism is special simply because it is the best we've got. It is better than falling victim the the various biases and fallacies that can influence unsophisticated reasoning. This is not to say that empiricism cannot err or that there are not truths that are true despite the fact that science cannot verify them. But it has done pretty darn good I'd say.

The point is, the use of empirical methodology (especially in the behavioral sciences) is fraught with problems. "Assessing whether something works"? According to what criteria? As you mentioned earlier, many will verify that prayer works reliably, but it doesn't sound like you accept that. What makes scientific empiricism so special?

This video is absolutely loaded with NLP. Notice how he moves his head. Does it seem a little strange to you? With lots of emphasis movements, and very specific nods in certain directions for certain kinds of words. All NLP experts do it if you watch, they'll bob their head around, gesticulate wildly, sometimes wave a finger or shift their weight from side to side, and over-move their mouth when they talk.

I think perhaps that mirroring is what we do when we want control over another person, without the other person feeling any traditional conflicts (like "giving themselves over.") When we act like the other, but not mirror, we are in accord with them. Try it! test mirroring, then test doing. @pistolgrip01 I would love to see this guy get the same reaction if he didn't use the tone of voice he was using and the body language he was using. Only 7% of what we process when we listen to someone speak is the words (that would fall under punch line). The other 93% falls under the tone of speaking(38%) and body language (55%). No, that's inaccurate. Derren uses very advanced forms of psychology and mentalism tricks to attain the results that he gets. He also probably goes through a bunch of failed attempts to get to the successful attempts, as no one can do this flawlessly, but it's not fake by any means. Anyone can do this.

Very good explanation. Many people do indeed believe that anchors is some sort of hypnotic wizardry. I always explain we anchor continuously. You hear a song during a nice summer holiday every time you hear it you will feel that same emotion only a little more dull. When you smell a school building's interior you are warped back to your schooldays. Anchors are normal human behaviour we subconsciously create. But you can also consciously create them.

the thing is it's pretty hard to determine whats therapeutic for which client, this method looks like it's working for this client, many of the criticism is that these shorter more affordable methods of therapy are conveniently in accord with capitalist economy a therapy method you can mass produce so to speak and thus they're not reliable but then the proven methods with many articles published on can fail as well, might be wrong for the clients's condition, might be therapist's mistake as well

I have had PTSD since childhood from being drugged with LSD without my knowledge. I had EMDR as well as any other therapy over the last 34 years you can name. In my experience, EMDR and other cognitive therapy works in the following way. You go through each therapy, EMDR, then all the others. After a few years those treatments go out and back into vogue, and they are given to you again. After trying all these treatments over and over without success, you die of old age. Voila, your PTSD is gone.

I respect your skepticism of NLP but why do you have such a vendetta against it? Its pretty concrete that science has a hard time proving subjective experience. I've never heard of this mathamatical modeling or any of its formalas. I am sure you know that math are proofs and the highest level of factual information to date. Bandler and Grinder studied applied modeling of sucessful people and used those characteristic to replicate simlilar results in others. However, their modeling approach does not follow the scientific method and much of NLP claims cannot be scientifically verified.
