Milo: Thanks Lilanth! If you found this useful, it's the tip of the iceberg of my book "Public Speaking: Get A's, Not Zzzzzz's!" I wrote it because I found most books on the topic where really pretty dry reading...and that's a shame! It's a topic I find fascinating, so I knew it could be done in an interesting way. I use fun Top Ten lists to cover my topics. Visit PublicDynamics d-o-t com to preview the book and see if you'd like one! And if you'd like a coach, contact me thru the site! :-)

Milo: John, thanks for the update. I've seen the three-tier approach taught in TM for so long, yet never heard it accredited to Carnegie; thank you for educating me. I'm surprised to hear that it's not universally accepted by TM because I've heard it reinforced with TM book #1 so many times. But hooray for chapters moving beyond that. As for my suggestions being obvious to most people, I think it's more a credit to your experience level; lots of Ahas in my evaluations. Thanks for writing!

the how to construct a speech formula was initiated by Dale Carnegie long before toastmasters existed. tell them what you are going to tell them etc is not a rule of all toastmasters teaching. your suggestions are fine if very obvious to most people well done all the same .

that was very interesting and helpful, i need to give a presentation soon which has to be top notch and i can see how the power of the 'story' works and how you used it time and time again in your own presentation. thanks for the ideas!

Replay from Milo: Agreed on all accounts. The event was not designed as a vehicle for me to tape; it was a live client audience. The microphone was supposed to be a lavaliere but this is what they came up with. Had to be gracious and accept what was. Someday, I'll make a better video but for now, I thought that having this to show the content was a step above nothing. :-) Thanks for watching and writing.

Good discussion with valid points. 2 pts to improve this video would be to used a different style of mike. I was somewhat distracted by the mike appearing to pop in and out around your neck. I would prefer a small head set up close to your cheek. I would consider re-filming the video at a different angle so that the screen doesn't show for 2 reasons. Too much contrast between the background and the bright screen and, 2nd, there were objects on the screen which was distracting. Otherwise, fine.
