this is so elegant!
By: winxcat. on 02 Dec 08, 18:49:38
this is not attack. it's defence. Ideal for females. If u notice, in chinese films girls do aikido in loose silky of nearly transparent colours. It's mostly spinning because the attacker cannot catch you. Beautiful in films (flying daggers, forbidden kingdom etc.)

LMFAO!!! 0:47 is possibly the funniest fucking sound and technique combo I have ever witnessed. Imagine you where fighting some arsehole outside the pub and he did that to you. I wouldn't wanna get back up for embarrassment XD (and laughing at how awesome it looked)

aikido works. many people just train it wrong way. that kind of "formal" fighting is wrong. its good to traing technigues first. but aikidokas should chance faster to sparring. these technigues are really great. but people in aikidio train like the great sensei which is 70 now or somehtin'. so if they would spar more and ad that hard touch to this thing, it would be really working.

Fourth, Tapping out is a way to stop a fight for safety reasons. Its used in most martialarts schools in the west that aren't rigidly structured based on sport rules. There are no set win conditions in a real fight,Why should there be in a martial arts school? Because most people who take TQD and Karate and other such, martial arts are not in it for what a real pratitioner is. I want to learn to fight not play a comlex game of tag. I want to build muscle and endurance. A sport does not do this.
By: Tchjr13. on 29 Nov 08, 08:26:07
First of all, I don't give a damn about style, just function. Kung fu, TQD, Mui Tai, Doesn't matter. I don't discriminate or judge skill based on style. I judge on action. Second Kung Fu traditionally has no styles. It has sets of forms. You've heard of some, Crane, tiger, Mantis and the lot. Westernised kung fu doesn't specialize in one or anouther, They teach all that they know. Third, when I say studio I mean Studio. You'd call it a dojo or maybe even a gim, But its a studio.

But if you always win, then you don't need to learn. I say "waste of time" in that in terms of self-defense, it is. In terms of learning something interesting or picking up a hobby, or meeting people through Aikido training- it is not a waste of time, and if people enjoy that, then God bless them. But to say that this is self-defense against anything other than a drunk who get's rowdy is ignorant and stupid. It is very ineffective otherwise.
By: ginodelia. on 29 Nov 08, 04:34:57
EXCELENT
By: Thorolf9. on 29 Nov 08, 01:05:34
No training is a waste of time. No matter how ineffective you may think the martial art is, you will always gain experience. Some day you may be confronted with something that you can't overcome. But you will pick yourself up after your defeat and you will be a stronger fighter than you were before. A martial artist who always wins is a martial artist who does not learn.

What he is demonstrating is Formal Aikido not Street Style.I've been taking aikido for almost a year and I've done formal and street style. Aikido does work on the street their just showing Formal first. You have to know the basics before doing street style BTW You roll and breakfall so you don't hurt yourself or break something

I laugh at all you apologists for Aikido who are ashamed to admit you've wastes years of your life on this crap. I laugh harder when I meet guys at my dojo who used to train Aikido but gave it up for BJJ or Judo or what have you. "What made you stop," I ask them. "A Judoka with 1/6 the training time came in one day and wiped the floor with me," they answer. I guess all those fancy wristlocks and fruity rolls and breakfalls didn't help. Stupid.
By: originalcrystalchaos. on 28 Nov 08, 07:53:49
i laugh at all the "this wouldn't work in real life" comments, or "try that and ill kick your ass because i wouldnt roll away like that". Mainly from MMA meatheads. Show me Ortiz or Shamrock smacking a heavy bag and ill say id kick their ass becuse i wouldnt just stand there taking hit after hit. At the end of the day the Uke is just a human apparatus, like a heavy bag or whatever for the nagi to practice on. to aikido purests - I apologise for describing the nagi/ uke relationship like that.

Kung Fu? Which Style/School? You say studio or do you mean Kwoon? Tapping out in Kung Fu? More like comp MMA Please go to Aikido Dojo, make the Sensei tap out then feel free to make your comments.
By: Davo60593. on 28 Nov 08, 06:10:55
You will really have no idea of the power of aikido until you have met skilled akidoka. I have years of training in Wing Chun which I consider to be VERY valuable. Do not underestimate the power of the Dynamic Sphere. Please Bear in mind you are only watching a set, Form or Kata I Guess you still have no idea!
By: Tchjr13. on 28 Nov 08, 04:24:32
I feel the need to point out that as soon as the demonstaitor touches the offender the offender stops struggling or resisting in anyway. Everytime I have ever been to a kung fu studio you get the shit beat out of you for giving up without tapping out... No one just fucking quits in a fight, ever. These demonstrations are unrealistic and idealistic. The perfect conditions for perfect executions, designed more as a propaganda tool than actual practicality.

wow! the second one must be fucking painful! 0:04

I am quite aware of the origins of aikido. I was simple making the observation about how this video showcases much more violent techniques. This kind of technique is much more commonly seen in jujitsu and arts of the gentleness as opposed to the arts of harmony. Aikido (as O-sensei saw it) is at its core a nonviolent form of self-defense. Although, I will say, it actually looks more like aikijitsu then anything else.
By: ketsan. on 26 Nov 08, 01:25:43
Actually it was nidai doshu that screwed everything up. Modern Aikido is his invention, not O-Sensei's.
By: ketsan. on 26 Nov 08, 01:21:49
Usually with Aikidoka they've studied another art and then come to Aikido. That's certainly true of all the Aikidoka I know.
By: mage1413. on 25 Nov 08, 23:01:36
i personlly prefer jujutsu, but this is a good style for a quick takedown, that can get a good advantage over a untrained person.
